Trialling skincare products is an activity I have a love/hate relationship with. My skin hasn’t always had the best reaction when trying new skincare so it’s something I don’t do very often – especially with several skincare products at a time. Face masks are a different story considering you don’t use them on your face every day. This autumn I’ve been trialling three different skincare products: a cleanser, a toner and a serum. Here are my thoughts on them.

When it comes to cleansers, I have two qualities I’m looking for: 1. it actually cleanses my skin 2. it doesn’t dry it out. These two qualities can be found on the Lush Let The Good Times Roll fresh cleanser*. It actually leaves my skin feeling hydrated – what a miracle product! The first thing I fell in love with while using this product is the scent – it smells like freshly baked cookies. The product contains maize flour which works as a gentle exfoliator while cleansing the skin.
Due to the scent and consistency of the product, it almost feels like you’re rubbing cookie dough all over your face! It leaves your skin feeling extremely soft and moistured. Although I love this product, I wouldn’t use it every day. Due to the exfoliating qualities, it feels a bit too harsh especially since I also use a toner. This cleanser would be ideal for a person whose skin is dry but not too sensitive. Personally I will continue to use this as a treatment a few times a week when my skin is requiring some extra TLC.

By Wishtrend toner – There’s some disagreement on whether people with dry skin should use toners or not. Personally, I think it’s more about finding the right toner for you. If I don’t use a toner, I will have dry patches all over my skin which is not very ideal. The right toners help with that. If you have dry skin, you should try to stay away from toners that contain alcohol. The By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water* is alcohol-free and actually hydrates your skin!
The main ingredient is mandelic acid which gently exfoliates but doesn’t irritate the skin. This toner is the first K-beauty product I’ve tried (apart from sheet masks) and so far I’m very impressed! I’ve tried quite a few toners over the years and it’s safe to say that this is my favourite so far. I use it once a day in the evenings and it keeps my face free from dry patches. Other products in my skincare routine seem to absorb much better after I started using this as well!
Since I have dry skin, hydrating serums are essential, especially during the colder months. I’ve only really tried hyaluronic acid so when Kiehl’s was having a sale I decided to purchase the smaller version of their Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate. I have used it for a few weeks now and still have mixed feelings about it. It does feel really hydrating and makes my skin look fresh and plump but on some days it feels a bit irritating on my skin. I’m not sure if my skin has just been extra dry on those days though. The irritation isn’t bad, it doesn’t make my skin red or anything but it just feels a tad uncomfortable for a minute or so. The more I think about it, it sounds like it’s just the extreme dryness. I will continue to use it and will report back.
